Protection Thresholds

The toecaps in our boots are designed and tested to provide protection against:

  • 200 Joules of impact
  • 15,000 Newtons of compression

These toecaps have been independently tested and certified to meet the following requirements of AS:2210.3:2019.

  • 5.3.2.1: General
  • 5.3.2.2: Internal length of toecap
  • 5.3.2.3: Impact resistance
  • 5.3.2.4: Compression resistance
  • 5.3.2.5.1: Behaviour of toecaps

While our boots are designed to reduce the risk of injury, no footwear can completely eliminate the risk of injury. It is the responsibility of the user to ensure the footwear is appropriate for their work environment. These boots are intended to be worn in a low-risk, safe working environment and may not prevent injury in accidents beyond the purpose of their design or exceeding their tested limits.

These boots are not designed or tested for additional protections, such as:

  • Electrical resistance
  • Outsole penetration protection
  • Chemical resistance
  • Slip resistance

Our Design

Our boots are designed for office-based professionals who are required to wear footwear with protective toe caps on occasion in low-risk, safe working environments. We do not recommend wearing this boot in heavy duty environments.

Southbury Boots offer a truly unique combination of style and safety. To the best of our knowledge, they are the only Chelsea-style dress boots on the market featuring a steel toecap that meets the stringent compression and impact requirements of AS:2210.3:2019.

Due to the slim design of Chelsea boots and the natural variation in foot shapes, the steel toecap may not directly cover all of the wearer’s toes. While these toes still receive protection, direct impacts could pose a risk of injury. Whilst similar coverage is not uncommon, for heavy-duty environments requiring maximum protection, we recommend exploring alternative footwear options. It is important you choose the right footwear with the correct level of protection needed for your job.

If you are uncertain about the suitability of these boots for your work environment, we encourage you to consult with your employer to ensure they meet the necessary requirements.

By purchasing Southbury Boots, you acknowledge that you have assessed their suitability for your specific needs and working conditions.
